Oxycodone is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It belongs to the group of medicines called narcotic analgesics (pain medicines). Oxycodone acts on the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain.
Oxycodone extended-release capsules or tablets should not be used if you need pain medicine for just a short time, such as when recovering from surgery. Do not use this medicine to relieve mild pain, or in situations when non-narcotic medication is effective. This medicine should not be used to treat pain that you only have once in a while or “as needed”.
When oxycodone is used for a long time, it may become habit-forming, causing mental or physical dependence. However, people who have continuing pain should not let the fear of dependence keep them from using narcotics to relieve their pain. Mental dependence (addiction) is not likely to occur when narcotics are used for this purpose. Physical dependence may lead to withdrawal side effects if treatment is stopped suddenly. However, severe withdrawal side effects can usually be prevented by gradually reducing the dose over a period of time before treatment is stopped completely.

Nausea, vomiting, constipation, lightheadedness, dizziness, or drowsiness may occur. Some of these side effects may decrease after you have been using this medication for a while. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
To prevent constipation, eat dietary fiber, drink enough water, and exercise. You may also need to take a laxative. Ask your pharmacist which type of laxative is right for you.
To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: interrupted breathing during sleep (sleep apnea), mental/mood changes (such as agitation, confusion, hallucinations), severe stomach/abdominal pain, difficulty urinating, signs of your adrenal glands not working well (such as loss of appetite, unusual tiredness, weight loss).
Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: fainting, seizure, slow/shallow breathing, severe drowsiness/difficulty waking up.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

I have been taking this for many years for breakthrough pain. Recently changed from a small pink pill to a white one. The white one is much less effective. I have been told that different formulations by the generic mfg’s can cause this for some people. Will be asking for the pink one in future.

I’ve been on Oxycodone for about six years for breakthrough pain due to chronic pain caused by Crohn’s Disease and spinal pain (Ankylosing Spondylitis and Degenerative Disc Disease) and have been on the same dose for around three years. It’s not as effective as it used to be due to tolerance, but I can definitely tell if I miss a dose or go too long without it.

I have no side effects from Oxycodone IR. I take 10 – 15 MG 3 to 4 times a day. I have arthritis in my spine, degenerative disc, spinal stenosis and possibly fibromyalgia. The KVK manufacturer brand really works.

“I am a 62 year old mom of 5, wife for 35 years. About 20 years ago I was being treated for chronic bilateral back pain with sciatica, herniated disc, lumbar degenerative disc disease. That being said, I was prescribed 80 mg of Oxycontin 3 times daily with Oxycodone 30mg immediate release for break through pain. It was life saving!!!! I was able to function, work at our business, take care of my family and do everyday tasks. Now, because of the “OPIOD CRISIS”, my Dr. tells me, I no longer can take this medication, and has taken me down to 30mg of Oxycontin 2 times per day and 20 mg Oxycodone up to 2 times daily! BTW, since the very first diagnosis I described, I now have Scoliosis of thoracolumbar spine and postural kyphosis of the thoracic region. So, from someone like myself, I don’t abuse, sell, or give out my medication, why do I along with so many people like me, have to be taken off a medication that offers them to live a somewhat productive life with almost bearable pain???”

I usually get KVK PINK oxycodone 30mg but this month I received Rhodes white pill. Horrible! I didn’t realize til I got home and cvs wouldn’t take back. They should be off the market. No relief stomach pain headaches. Be warned. Tell pharmacy to put no RHODES ON FILE.

Used daily for anal pain. Break into little pieces. Does knock pain down. Side effects dizzy and drowsy hard to sleep. Avoid Morphine…Instant Zombie Drug…never again. Would be a good drug over the counter if they could eliminate the side effects. Tylenol Advil and Oxycodone. Taking for a year now. Not addicted.

This medication has been a lifesaver. I am allergic to Advil and other NSAID’s and cannot take them. I have many medical problems (multiple surgeries on joints, herniated discs, etc.) that Tylenol does not work. My doctor gave it to me and has helped me so well. I would have not been able to finish college without it.
