Unlike other NSAIDs, celecoxib can be taken on an empty stomach, once or twice daily as needed to treat mild to moderate pain. If a stomach upset occurs, then take it after a meal. Common side effects can include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, heartburn, and gastric ulcers. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking celecoxib, as it can worsen the side effects.

Some people who take NSAIDs, including celecoxib, have demonstrated a higher risk for heart attack or stroke. This medication can also cause stress on the kidneys, so make sure to talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of celecoxib before starting or stopping the medication.

How to take Celebrex and celecoxib

Celebrex or celecoxib 100mg – take one capsule twice a day
Celebrex or celecoxib 200mg – take one capsule daily

You should not exceed more than 200mg per day.

The risk of side effects associated with heart problems may increase with the dose and duration of use. It is, therefore, important that you use the lowest dose that controls your pain. You should not take Celebrex for longer than is necessary to control the symptoms. Celebrex should be swallowed whole with a drink of water. The capsules can be taken at any time of the day, with or without food. However, try to take each dose of Celebrex at the same time every day. I have osteoarthritis and muscular dystrophy and live with pain. Celebrex works great for me and so does the generic form. No side effects. I have gained weight but not sure that is from this drug because I’ve always had a weight problem. I have to get quarterly blood drawn because the med is not meant for long term use and hard on the system but I’ve been on it for at least a year and a half and no problems with it. I take 100mg daily and doctor won’t approve 2 pills a day. I find that it wears off after about 8 hours and want another but I can’t have another. If I forget my pill, I know it so there is no question it works for my pain

I suffer severe pain from RA. I use multiple drugs.Low dose prednisone daily plus embrel. However I have days that I just have to much pain, that’s why my Dr introduced Celebrex. Works immediately for me. I try not to take it to much because of the other drugs, but it is amazing how much it helps when I need something else.

Have had pain from multiple sports injuries. Currently using it for shoulder pain (tendonitis, muscle tears, tendon tears) and it allows me to play golf and tennis without any issues. IT is a miracle drug for me as I don’t react favorably to most anti-inflammatories (stomach pain) but Celebrex give me no side effects.

Celebrex has been a helpful long term medication for my degenerative conditions. The arthritis pain in my knees has been reduced and has allowed me to move without pain. This drug is not for short term relief. In order to get the maximum benefit, expect to take it for 8-12 weeks. I have osteoporosis and arthritis with hardly any cartilage remaining in my knees.
